Juma is a organization set up to support young people in America going to college, they help them with everything their application, finance, etc to ensure that they are able to succeed. Really glad I’ve come across this because I feel it’s really relevant to Carisma, although they operate in different ways, Juma perhaps focus’ on those only wishing to go to college they both want to help a community of people grow together in a positive way and are both there to support and aid that process. Both operate by creating networks and reaching out not only to the community they aim to help but to the individuals, business’ and organisations that are willing to invest and sponsor the programmes. Juma’s actually quite a cool system if you’re struggling to go to college perhaps your can’t afford it or have some issues preventing you getting in then Juma can help you but they don’t stop there, you can also volunteer at Juma as a tutor to help and support those students achieve which creates a network of direct support and ensures those investing results! The way they get the investment is also quite interesting, you can donate directly to Juma and you become part of that network being invited to dinners etc to be given the opportunity to hear how your money has helped or you can donate through ‘collegeset’ which is a rather strange facebook style page you click on a person and you then can read a profile set up by them where they give the reasons they need money etc.
All this aside from design POV I really like Juma, starting with the logo its just a typeface I guess but the colours and the way it’s separated represent the diversity and network of people it supports and also it looks contemporary and stylish it stands out against some of the more traditional charities, its bolder, freshers and looks more exciting which is exactly from what I heard Carisma saying they wanted. Their website aswell is set out really well, it’s really simple basically there are 3 main pages one for students, one for volunteers and one for donors and each of those pages contain all the info you’d need to know and get excited about the project plus links to donate, apply etc. The hompage is nice as well you can watch the videos of a few students and it gives you their story which make it more real than just words on a page!
I feel like they’ve got the balance really well with their brand, it looks appealing to everyone it’s easy to access and understand and you really feel from the design alone that you’re taking part it something new, big and exciting.
Also forgot to mention this above but the style of the logo if you look at the collegeset logo the brand carries on with the colours and typeface on that so you can easily tell it’s part of Juma, something to think about when creating the brands for the different Carisma initiatives.
